Lakeway Quaker Meeting, Preparatory, Update

Lakeway logo - two blue cranesLakeway Quaker Meeting, preparatory, in Jefferson County, TN, had much wonderful news and updates to share with Friendsville Quarterly Meeting of Friends

on July 19, 2026, at Maryville Friends Meetinghouse in Maryville, TN. I asked Robin Hansel of Lakeway Friends, who gave the report, send me a summary so that it could be shared with all of Wilmington Yearly Meeting. Here, in Robin’s words, it is:

“What we’ve been up to:

  • We have moved into the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church in Jefferson City.  People are finding us there!

  • Church Connect Project (this project transferred with us from Lost Creek).  A small group of us started working on this grant project while still at Lost Creek.  Since we were the ones that had initially applied for the project, we were allowed to keep it.  We have been working over the past year completing community interviews, taking classes, having meetings, etc. to find the best way possible for this grant to benefit our community.  We had our “Friendly Shark Tank” meeting on July 11th where we “pitched” the idea of a “Pop Up Peace Children’s Museum”.  We were approved for the project and will be receiving a grant of $5,000 to implement the program.

    • We were asked to “Pop Up” at 3 events before we were approved.

      • We “popped up” at the Pride Festival in Jefferson County, and the Chamber of Commerce event at the Jefferson City Library.   We have another event planned in the fall.

  • Taiwanese Students:  We were honored to host 19 Taiwanese Students on July 5th.  We were the first church service they attended during their trip.  Ashlyn and Andy Stanton Henry delivered the message in English, the interpreter then translated.  Later that week, our youth participated in a “speed friendship” activity with the students and other youth groups in Jefferson City.

  • We sent 3 youths to Quaker Knoll.  This was a very positive experience for them!

  • Two young people from Maryville joined our youth to watch the Knoxville Smokies Baseball team play.
