Quaker Knoll Giving Tree: new request!
Quaker Knoll Giving Tree
The Youth & Young Adult Committee hopes everyone has heard by now about their fundraiser specifically to benefit the Wilmington Yearly Meeting’s Quaker Knoll Summer Camping program! The idea came from Quaker Kids at Chester Friends, and flourished under the care of YAYA! Branches of the “tree,” with two-part leaves listing wish-list items, is traveling around the Monthly Meetings so that everyone has an equal opportunity to take a leaf and contribute tangibly (or monetarily!) to the wonderful camping program that is in the midst of its 74th year. Next summer, at the end of the 75th Camping Season (and 76th year of Quaker Knoll ownership), YAYA will have a report (and maybe another party — details still very unclear at this point) to share with everyone how successful this campaign was.
In the meantime, even as old leaves are “falling off” (being selected), new ones are still coming out! Of particular and rather imminent need is a new water fountain. The old one (how old??) is leaking. It would be exceptionally useful if the new one had a bottle filler — most everyone these days under the age of 30 (or 35…or maybe 40) carries a water bottle with them regularly. Drinking water rather than just about anything else is a healthy practice, so this new habit is probably a good thing (possibly more than we can say for the “new” habit of always having a phone on one’s person…). Here’s a picture of one possibility, an outdoor model (kind-of important for Quaker Knoll) that runs about $1,500. Professional installation may also be needed. That’s a pretty big chunk of money for one person, but leaves can be shared!
