The QK 75th Kick-off: Wonderful!!

75th Quaker Knoll Anniversary Year Kick-Off!

Dear Friends,
Your Youth and Young Adult Committee thanks you for your support of the Quaker Knoll
75th Anniversary Celebration on May 24 and 25, and to those meetings which moved their
service to Quaker Knoll on the 24th. We were blessed to have a great turnout, and while the
weather wasn’t the best on Sunday, it ended up being glorious on Monday afternoon. Sunday
saw roughly 90 folks come out for a joyful worship service with Mike and Nancy McCormick
speaking, sharing of camp songs, and a message to the young people by Youth Pastor Jordan
Snarr. When we opened the worship service and asked who had never been to Quaker Knoll
before, perhaps 1⁄3 of the gathered body raised their hands – a reminder that for all that Quaker
Knoll is beloved by many of us, in some ways it still remains a “hidden treasure.” We finished
the official activities for the day with a delicious carry-in meal. Nancy McCormick shared to the
committee that God would provide, and in fact there was more than enough delicious food and
desserts, and the campground remained open for anybody to enjoy throughout the day.

At 11, we had the highlight of the day – a panel of speakers about the earliest days of Quaker Knoll, including two of the first campers, Mary Ellen (Hadley) Krisher and David Terrell. Rosaling Dunsieth Engle, another first year camper, wasn’t able to attender but shared some memories via her daughter, Leeanna McKamey. Christine Snyder, while not a first-year camper, shared many historical details, information, and her own memories as well. Everybody truly enjoyed hearing these memories from the earliest days, and it was recorded. We rounded out the panel by hearing from Mike and Nancy McCormick, former caretaker and cook, as well as Jay Schroeder and Diane Marshall, the present caretaker and cook (respectively).

None of this would have been possible without the support of the Yearly Meeting and all the committee members and volunteers who helped out, so once again: thank you!
